Great service with good food at reasonable prices.”

Dori’s Tea Cottage & CafeDoris Tea Cottage Groveland California

From the owners “Dori’s Tea Cottage & Cafe is located at 18744 Main Street (Highway 120) in Groveland, California — just 26 miles from Yosemite National Park. In May 2008, Dori & Greg opened Dori’s Tea Cottage in the former home (built in 1935) of Minnie Ferretti, Groveland’s former U.S. Postmaster. Dori’s Tea Cottage offers a traditional English-style luncheon and gourmet teas in a peaceful and comfortable setting. In May 2012, Dori’s opened Dori’s Cafe in an adjacent space, which was Groveland’s former U.S. Post Office. We offer breakfast wraps and bagels; pastries; espresso and iced coffee drinks; sandwiches and wraps; and salads; as well as everything you need to “Build a Picnic” — cheeses, salami, crackers, fine wines, etc.We hope you’ll stop in to see us – whether it’s for a quick breakfast or pastry, join us for our English tea luncheon, or grab lunch to go for your trip to Yosemite.”

 Charlotte Bistro & Bar

From Trip Advisor “While staying near Yosemite, we found this fantastic restaurant through trip advisor. It was our best meal (and evening) after 15 days touring California/ Utah. The menu was extensive and enticing, only to be beaten by the quality and flavour of the meals. We shared calimari, pork tamale and Charlotte Bistro and Bar Grovelandhoney stung chicken. This was followed many a plate of giant s’mores. The food was all delicious and was unbeatable for the rest of our holiday! Owner/chef Doug Edwards came to thank us after we passed our compliments through the waiter. Doug really knows how to run an excellent bistro! We all wish we could move the bistro and its staff to our village in the UK.”

Cross County Cafe

From Trip Advisor  “Quality Service and Quality Food – 5 of 5 starsEverything we had for breakfast was delicious and a highly attentive staff. I got a Veggie cross country cafeEggs Benedict (Avacado instead of ham). It was delicious, and my eggs were cooked perfect. It’s been difficult enough to find a correctly poached egg in San Francisco! Definitely would go back and try more things! They do need to improve the decor a little, it’s a bit funky…”

Buck Meadows Restaurant

Originally, back in 1874,  Buck Meadows was a “Stage Stop” for hungry travelers, miners and loggers.  The homemade pies are delicious and meal servings are large. From Trip Advisor “We stayed next door and was skeptical that there would any good dining near by – Well we loved this place – we had all of our dinners here and ordered all of our lunched to go as well – The place had an old 50’s-60’s theme with a wide variety on the menu – Burgers- Dogs – Fish -Pasta – Steak it is all here and well prepared as well – We loved the service but after a hot summer’s day in Yosemite the tall glass of cold draft beer was to die for – We also ordered sandwiches to go for the day early in the morning very nice portions”

Groveland Hotel’s Cellar Door

From Trip Advisor “Great food –service excellent, and proprietor even checked on you. Chef even came out and made sure food was to your liking. Super job Groveland Hotel Restaurant. The STEAKS were the BOMB.” and “I had heard about the Cellar Door restaurant in Groveland, CA and decided to surprise my wife by taking her there for her birthday. We both were in for a surprise. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and the menu choices were wonderful. Best of all, the food was superbly prepared and delicious. Our steaks were perfect and everything, from appetizers to dessert, was what one would expect in a big city, high class restaurant. We will take the hour and a half drive to dine there again and again.”

Iron Door saloon groveland californiaIron Door Saloon

Considered a “must see” on the way in and out of Yosemite, the Iron Door Saloon’s claim to fame is being the oldest continuously operating saloon in California. From Trip Advisor “This saloon built and continually open since 1852 was awesome. Beers were good and the food was above average bar food. The atmosphere was so cool I was waiting for a cowboy to walk in with a six shooter strapped to his side. You couldn’t replicate teh cool junk this place had on the walls. It was a local hangout and full of great people and we had jsut a wonderfu time.”

Mountain Sage Cafe

From Trip Advisor This little “cafe” was a delightful surprise for us.  They create and serve excellent baked goods, nutritious drinks, coffees, teas, and freshly-made lunches. One woman seemed to make it all, so we had to wait about 10 minutes to be served, but there was lots else to see here so that was OK.  The cafe is in the family home from mid-1800’s. But the best part of this cafe is the photo collection from Robb Hirsch, a local landscape photographer with a highly refined photographic eye and ability to capture light. Guests are free to explore several rooms of the home gallery. Also there’s a nursery featuring many native plants in the garden out back.  Finally, there is free, very fast WiFi and several couches and seating areas in the gallery rooms for staying connected on the road.

Boating on Pine Mountain Lake, Groveland, CA

Pine Mountain Lake offers all of the amenities of Lake Tahoe with a few distinct advantages.  It’s a gated community with its own airport, golf links, equestrian center, as well as a tennis and a swim club.  The close proximity to Yosemite National Park, a mecca for travelers around the world is another unique highlight.  Two more key features that make a big difference are the one hour to two hour closer travel times from the Bay Area, depending on where you are departing from.

Most of the area remains an undiscovered retreat which provides value buyers that dream vacation home or year round living on a lake or golf course.  The upcoming videos will provide some insights on this gated hideaway.

Lights, Camera, Action – Hollywood Comes to Gold Country’s Groveland

Hollywood actors and film crews ended a 25 day shoot concluding in Tuolumne County’s Groveland on Saturday, Aug. 10th filming the movie, “The Road Within”, which will be released sometime next year.  The 38-person film crew spent Friday night at the historic Groveland hotel which was also a backdrop for scenes in the movie.  The location manager, Jason Madison, chose Groveland for its charm after researching small towns throughout California.  Some local businesses will be featured in the movie, including the Iron Door Saloon, Groveland Hotel, and the Firefall Coffee Roasting Company.  Tuolumne County has been used as the filming location for about 200 movies including “High Noon,” “Back to the Future III” and “Unforgiven”.  Read more about “The Road Within” in the recent  article from  the Union Democrat.  For more information about the Tuolumne County Film Commission go to  http://filmtuolumne.com/
